Bloglines is cool..
I've recently discovered Bloglines and I think I'm going to be using it as my main RSS aggregator instead of the LJ Friends page. The Friends page is kind of unique being a single-page aggregator, but that gets kind of difficult to manage once you add a number of active RSS feeds and/or communities, and filtering by Friends group is kind of clunky.

It's cool. It lets you sort things into folders, and the single-page aggregation for folders will sort posts by blog instead of just by timestamp like LJ. They also have some nifty Mozilla extensions that lets you add feeds directly from within Mozilla. They support OPML so you can import/export subscription lists from a desktop aggregator as well. I recommend giving it a try.

I'm still trying to figure out how I can incorporate Blogline's automatically generated blogrolls into LJ. LJ doesn't let you embed JavaScript into a style, so that'll be difficult. Until then, you can look at my blogroll over there.

Current Mood: geeky geeky

it looks interesting, and i've been playing around with it, but it also looks like i'm going to miss out on receiving any friends-only posts, is that right? are you going to use this in conjunction with a stripped-down friends page or something?

Dam those Friends Only posts!

Yeah, friends-only isn't exposed through LJ's RSS or ATOM feeds for obvious reasons. I still use the LJ friends page for most of my actual friends.

I find that this doesn't work so well for the higher traffic newsfeeds and such, so that's where a seperate RSS aggregator like bloglines becomes useful.
